Mike Brown is making his first England senior tour, having excelled for the Saxons in their matches last February in which he scored two tries in the 34-5 win over Italy A at Sandy Park, Exeter and then shared in the 30-5 triumph over Ireland A at Ravenhill, Belfast. He was a member of the England Under-21 squad that achieved the Grand Slam last year. He was educated at Peter Symonds College, Winchester and Wyvern College in Salisbury, the city where he began playing at the age of five before joining the local club’s Under-8s team. He represented Dorset & Wiltshire at all age groups from under-14s to under-18s before being selected for the South-West Under-18s. After being chosen for Hampshire Under-20s, he joined NEC Harlequins during the 2002-03 season, playing for their under-19s and 21s teams. He became a regular member of the club’s Zurich A League side and made his first team debut against Coventry last season.
He scored eight tries in 13 National One appearances during that campaign and signed a new two-year contract with Harlequins last March.
