Rhys Thomas made his debut as a replacement against the USA in 2005, before going on to win his first full cap against Canada in the 60-3 win a week later.
Thomas started his club career at Newport but moved to the Cardiff Blues in 2002, after a short loan period. The hooker has made 75 appearances and scored six tries for the region to date; Thomas made 22 of these appearances in the 2006–2007 season for the Blues.
Thomas won five U21 caps for Wales and played in the U21 World Championship in 2002. He was included in the squad for the 2006 Invesco Perpetual Series, and appeared against the Pacific Islands and New Zealand, and as a replacement against Canada.
A call up to the Wales squad ahead of the 2007 RBS Six Nations saw Thomas appear against Ireland and Scotland, and he was further used as a replacement in the clashes with France and Italy.
Thomas was rested ahead of Wales's two-Test tour to Australia but in June was included in Gareth Jenkins's 41-man Rugby World Cup 2007 summer training squad. After appearing in the Test against England at Twickenham, Thomas was included in Wales's final RWC squad and made a further appearance in August against France in the Invesco Perpetual Summer Series. |
