Andy Titterrell, a 2005 Lion in New Zealand, is joining Gloucester Rugby next season after six years with Sale Sharks. Initially in Sir Clive Woodward’s squad for England’s 2003 RWC build up, he has advanced his development not only through the Sale Jets’ team but also the England Saxons’ system. He made his debut against Ireland A in 2002, was a member of the Saxons’ squad that won the Churchill Cup the following year and is not only a sound scrummager and accurate line out thrower but is a tearaway player around the field. Won the most recent of his four Test caps against Scotland in March 2005, having achieved representative honours at county, regional and international age group levels. Played for England Under-16s, 18s, 19s and Under-21s, toured Australia with the full England squad last summer and has previous club experience with Saracens and Waterloo Drummers. Was educated at Sevenoaks School and has completed a century of appearances in the Guinness Premiership. He made his Sale debut against Auch in 2001.
Did you know? Andy missed the early part of last season after undergoing a neck operation to repair a decompression of two discs. Ironically, he had been absent from only one game in the whole of the previous campaign – against Llanelli Scarlets in the Powergen Cup. His switch to Gloucester next season is on a three-year contract. Dean Ryan, the head coach at Kingsholm, said: “Andy is an international-quality footballer and the opportunity to sign that sort of player does not come around that often.
He will add a great deal to our squad. He has tremendous determination to succeed and that is the type of attitude we want.”
