Ben showed great promise from an early age when he kicked off his England career by leading out England U16s against Wales in 2000. He was a member of the IRB U19 FIRA World Cup squad and collected a total of seven U19 caps in 2000, before being called into the U21 squad for the 2003 IRB U21 World Championships held in England.
