ANDREW MOWER (Newcastle Falcons) Openside flanker. Born 3.9.75 in Sydney, Australia. 6ft 1ins, 15st 4lbs. Andrew Lance Mower made his sixth Six Nations start for Scotland in the win against Italy at Murrayfield in March 2003. His first was in the win against Italy in Rome the previous year. Mower made his Scotland A debut in the 37-24 November 2000 success against Samoa at McDiarmid Park, Perth. He was outstanding in his 8th outing for the A side, the 21-18 win against Romania in Aberdeen in November 2002 and the following fortnight in the victory over Fiji. In season 2001-02 he won A honours against the English in the 6-6 draw at Stirling and in the defeats against the Irish, French and Welsh. He qualifies for Scotland on account of a maternal grandfather born in Glasgow. He played first-grade rugby with the Gordon club in his native Sydney for three years, helping them to a grand final victory against Northern Suburbs in 1998. He also competed for Australian guest sides in the Hong Kong 10s tournament and was in the New South Wales training squad prior to joining London Irish where he understudied Irish internationalist Kieron Dawson. In season 2000-2001 he joined Newcastle Falcons. In the autumn of 2002 he joined The Borders on loan before returning to Tyneside. A former foreign exchange trader, Mower was a member of the Palm Beach Surf Lifesaving Club in Sydney, featured in the TV soap opera, Home and Away.
