POSITION Scrum half 2007 - Heinken Cup, Harlequins Andy Gomarsall MBE, a member of England’s triumphant Rugby World Cup squad four years ago, won his 23rd and most recent cap in the starting line-up against Australia 31 months ago – in November 2004. Educated at Bedford School and Oxford Brookes University, he captained England Schools 18-Group to a Grand Slam in 1992, his country’s first at that level for 11 years. He went on to lead England Colts, represented England Under-21s, Students, Emerging Players, Saxons and captained the Bedford club in 1999-2000. He joined Gloucester the following season, having earlier spent five years with London Wasps and one with Bath.
Appeared for the Wasps side that lost the 1998 Pilkington Cup final 48-18 to Saracens at Twickenham but was a member of the team that beat Newcastle Falcons 29-19 the following year. Four seasons later, he helped Gloucester to defeat Northampton Saints 40-22 in his third appearance in the final and signed for NEC Harlequins last September.

Andy began playing at the age of six, has been a member of ten clubs from minis to senior rugby and bounced back to top level after a serious back operation earlier in his career. A Barbarian, he made 20 appearances for Harlequins in the season that has just ended, having left Worcester Warriors last summer. Signed a new contract in April that will keep him at Twickenham Stoop until June 2009. Dean Richards, his director of rugby, said: “Andy has been outstanding since he arrived. He is probably the best communicator of all the scrum halves in the country. He appreciates the opportunity we have given him and his goal was the opportunity to get back into the England squad.”
