PLAYER WRITE-UP
Schalk Burger has been a stalwart of Springbok rugby since making his Test debut as a 20-year-old at the Rugby World Cup in 2003. A former IRB World Player of the Year (2004), this versatile loose forward was been in sublime form in 2010 and 2011, before a bad knee injury saw him miss the entire 2012 season (apart from the first few minutes of the Stormers' opening Vodacom Super Rugby match). Schalk is a natural leader, having captained the Stormers and Western Province. He has won the Rugby World Cup (2007) and two Castle Tri-Nations series (2004 and 2009) with the Boks. Along with his long-time flank partner Juan Smith, he holds record for most tries in Tests as a Springbok flank (11) and is also the most capped Springbok flank ever.
