|GLENN METCALFE (Glasgow Hawks and Glasgow Rugby). Full-back/wing. Born 15.4.70 in Auckland, New Zealand. 5ft 11in, 13st 12lb. Glenn Hayden Metcalfe captained Scotland A for the first time in his sixth outing at that level in the November 2002 win against Romania and continued in the job for their 45-29 victory over Fiji. He won back his place in the Scotland team for the start of the 2003 RBS Six Nations Championship and retained his place throughout the competition. Scotland's Famous Grouse Player of the Season for 1999-2000, Metcalfe toured New Zealand in the summer of 2000 but a heel injury restricted him to just one outing - against New Zealand Vikings. He scored his third try for Scotland in the match against Ireland in February 2000. His first was recorded against Argentina in August 1999, while he followed that up with a score in the World Cup victory against Uruguay. Glenn was the man of the match in Scotland's 1999 success against France in Paris. One year later against the same opponents he played for Scotland on the wing in a cap match for the first time. He qualifies for Scotland through a maternal grandmother from Shawlands in Glasgow and played in three of Scotland's four games on the 1999 South African tour. He played twice for Scotland A in 1997-98 and was immense as his club, Glasgow Hawks, won both the Tennents Premiership Division 2 title and the Tennent's Velvet Cup. He played seven times for Waikato at senior provincial level in New Zealand, where he was a member of the Hamilton Marist club. He first sampled rugby in Scotland with Glasgow Academicals, and his move to full-back came in January 1998 when Hawks utilised him in the No.15 berth in a cup game against Cumbernauld. He played in all of Scotland's matches in the Five Nations Championship triumph that season as well as four of the five World Cup internationals that autumn. In season 1999-2000 he also was Player of the Year at the Mail on Sunday Rugby Awards Dinner.
