PLAYER WRITE-UP
Last season’s Vodacom Cup Player of the Series, Nel made a big impression with the struggling Bulls when he was called into their squad late in the 2001 Super 12. His tournament finished, however, when he tore knee ligaments while scoring a try for the Bulls in their victory against the Blues. This burly, powerful young centre hails from the Western Cape, where he played for the Western Province under-21 and Vodacom Cup sides. Nel made a rapid recovery from his knee injury to be chosen as the Blue Bulls most promising player of last season by a panel of rugby journalists and supporters.
