PLAYER WRITE-UP
STEVE SCOTT (Gala and The Borders) Hooker. Born 26.7.73 in Galashiels. 6ft, 17st. Stephen Scott won his eighth cap for Scotland when he came on in the second-half of the Scottish Mutual Autumn Test against Romania in November 2002. Earlier in the year he played in four matches on the Scotland tour of North America and in the non-cap game against the Barbarians which preceded the trip. He was also among Scotland A’s try scorers in their 30-29 win against Italy A in Pomezia. He had experienced Six Nations action for the first time when he came on in the latter stages of Scotland’s 23-19 win against Italy in March 2001. He had won his first cap for Scotland when he was introduced as a substitute for Gordon Bulloch in the second Test on the 2000 summer tour of New Zealand. His second cap also saw him enlisted from the bench for the 2000 Autumn Test against the USA. In season 2001-2002 he was deployed from the bench again during the closing stages of Scotland’s 43-20 win against Tonga and the defeat by New Zealand. He was also on the bench for Scotland for the 1999-2000 Six Nations Championship match against France. Educated at Earlston High School, Scott has won Scottish Borders honours at under-15, under-18, under-19 and under-21 levels and has also played for Edinburgh’s district XV, Scottish Districts, and Scotland under-21. His under-21 debut was against Italy in 1992 at Poynder Park, Kelso, while he was playing for Melrose. He later joined Gala before moving on to Edinburgh Reivers (now known as Edinburgh Rugby). For the 2002-2003 season he has decided to return to this roots with the new pro-team, The Borders. International record: 8 caps. 2000 – NZ2 (rep) USA (rep). 2001 – It (rep) I (rep) T (rep) NZ(rep). 2002 – USA (rep) R (rep). Hooker for Scotland vs SA November, 2002
