| Faan Rautenbach was probably one of the strongest tighthead props to play for South Africa in the 2000s. A farm boy from the Free State, he moved to Cape Town after one season in the Absa Currie Cup for Northern Free State and promply shot to prominence playing for the Stormers and Western Province. Renowned for his scrumming, Rautenbach was a no-nonsense tight forward who always got stuck into doing the dirty work on the field. He concluded a long professional career as a stalwart for London Irish in the UK before returning to farm in South Africa.
