A member of the RWC winning squad in 2007, Bakkies Botha has been amongst the best No 4 locks in the world in recent seasons, displaying a high work rate and uncompromising physicality at the contact points. At one stage during his long career, he and Danie Rossouw were the only players who have winners’ medals from the Rugby World Cup, Castle Tri-Nations, Castle South Africa 2009 Lions Series, Vodacom Super Rugby, Absa Currie Cup and Vodacom Cup, and later they added the Heineken Cup and French Top 14 titles to that list as well. He played in three Rugby World Cup tournaments and retired from Test rugby in November 2014.
