SCOTT MURRAY (Edinburgh Rugby). Lock. Born 15.1.76 in Musselburgh. 6ft 6in, 16st 8lb. Scott Murray rounded off the 2002 Six Nations Championship in fine form. He was named The Famous Grouse Scotland player of the season and won the Man of the Match award following Scotland’s 27-22 win against Wales. Murray was one of the three Scots originally selected for the 2001 British & Irish Lions tour of Australia. He was lauded for his display against Australia in the November 2000 Autumn Test, winning man of the match awards from Club Scotland and The Famous Grouse. Murray played in three games on Scotland’s 2000 tour to New Zealand before injury forced him to fly home after the first Test. In 1999 he marked a superb all-round performance against Wales by scoring Scotland's fourth try and gaining the man of the match prize, a title he also won in Scotland's defeat at Twickenham two weeks later. He went on to win The Famous Grouse Scotland Player of the Season competition in season 1998-99. His score against Wales was his second Test try for Scotland, his first having been in his debut match against Australia in 1997. He met the Wallabies again in the summer of 1998, playing in both Tests against them as well as the game against Fiji in Suva. He was on the bench for Scotland during the 1996 Five Nations campaign, having made his A international debut against Italy that year. He won his eighth A cap against England in the 1998 Grand Slam clinching game. He now has nine A caps. In the summer of 1996 he toured New Zealand with Scotland and played in three games - all victories. In 1996 he left Edinburgh Academicals to join Bedford, who won promotion the following year as champions to the Allied Dunbar Premiership, and then he moved on to Saracens. He has now returned to Scotland however and signed for Edinburgh Rugby at the start of season 2002/2003. A former Scottish Schools basketball internationalist, Murray has played rugby for Scotland at every youth level, including participation in the FIRA Junior World Championship in Bucharest in 1995. A former pupil of Morgan Academy in Dundee and Preston Lodge High School in Prestonpans, Murray has also played club rugby for Preston Lodge FP.
