Felipe has the virtue of being a diversified three-quarter. His natural position is that of a flyhalf, though he has played as a centre or fullback on several occasions. Felipe is Manuel Contepomi's twin brother.
He made his debut for the Pumas in a match against Chile in 1998. He took part in the Rugby World Cup 1999 after which he emigrated to Bristol, England, where he joined Agustín Pichot. He was recently transferred to Leinster in Ireland.
Felipe is also a student at the Medical School and intends to complete his studies in Argentina. The former Newman Club player was also a member of the Sevens Representative Team that came in third at the Rugby World Cup Sevens held in Mar del Plata in 2001 and formed part of the Barbarians Rugby Team.
Felipe was a member of a great junior team at Newman Club that was a roaring success in the junior tournaments in Buenos Aires in the early 1990s. In fact, they won almost every tournament or sevens championship they took part in.
In 1996, as a member of the Pumitas team, he won the U19 FIRA Tournament. In 1998, his team came in second (on try difference) at the U21 Southern Hemisphere Tournament. Felipe is a highly popular player amongst the Pumas fans. |
