| Botha is a rare talent, having played for the Falcons under-21 side for four years before making his debut for the senior side in 2000.
In 2001 he illuminated the Vodacom Cup and the Bankfin Currie Cup scene with his silky running skills and quick hands. In the modern game coaches are looking for big, strong midfield players who are able to breach defensive lines with brute force, but Botha and centre partner Adrian Jacobs are prove that the day of the small, skillful centre with quick feet and instinctive reactions are not gone yet.
Such was the 22-year-old's rise to prominence in 2001 that he was mentioned as a serious contender for Springbok's end-of-year tour.
It was not to be, but he was a member of the SA under-23 squad that won the African Cup Final against Morocco in Casablanca late last year.
