PLAYER WRITE-UP
Joe van Niekerk has been one of the top players in the French league since making the move north a couple of seasons ago. As captain of Toulon, he has put in consistently strong performances, earning the accolade as the best player in the French Top 14 in 2009. The big, athletic loose forward, who captained South Africa at U21 level, suffered a string of injuries between 2006 and 2008 but seems to have broken the shackles to mature into a dynamic player and leader.
