He also had the accolade of playing for the British & Irish Lions in the final Test against Springboks in 1997. He returned to Bristol two seasons ago from Leeds Tykes, where he had spent four years. During his spell at Headingley Carnegie, he helped the Tykes to beat Bath, one of his former clubs, 20-12 in the Powergen Cup final at Twickenham in 2005. He was introduced to the game when eight by the Keynsham club, moved to St Brendan’s Old Boys minis and then played through Bristol’s age group sides.
He represented England 16-Group President’s XV, the 18-Group, Colts, Students, Under-21s, Emerging Players and England A, for whom he scored two tries against Wales A at Ashton Gate, Bristol five years ago.

Mark, nicknamed ‘Ronnie’, completed his benefit year with Bristol two months ago that also raised funds for the Wooden Spoon Society and the Bristol Children’s Society. He plays every game as if it is his last and was a key figure when his club reached the Guinness Premiership play-offs in May this year. He made his Bristol debut in 1992 against Gloucester and on his return this season, Richard Hill, the club’s head coach said: “Bringing him back to Bristol was one of our best decisions as our supporters love to see home-grown talent in action.” Mark signed a new two-year contract with the club last October.
