PLAYER WRITE-UP
BRYAN REDPATH (Sale Sharks). Scrum half. CAPTAIN Born 2.7.71 in Galashiels. 5ft 7in, 12st 5lb. Bryan William Redpath capped a superb individual performance by scoring his first try for Scotland in a cap international when he touched down against France in March 2002. That match marked his sixth appearance as Scotland captain. He has now led the side eight times. He was also captain in the non-cap World Cup qualifying matches against Portugal and Spain in 1998, then injury forced him to miss the 1999 Five Nations Championship. He made his Scotland comeback as captain in the win over Northern Free State on the 1999 tour to South Africa, when he appeared in three of the four matches, two as a replacement. He was vice-captain of the Scotland team during the two Tests against Australia on the 1998 tour, having returned to international duty against Fiji. Earlier in 1998 he captained Scotland A to the first two legs of their Grand Slam - the matches against the Irish and the French. Captaincy obviously sits easily with this youngest of three rugby-playing brothers as he led Melrose to a domestic club clean sweep in season 1996-97. He also played international rugby at under-18 and under-21 levels, toured with Scotland to the South Pacific in 1993 and Argentina (1994), and played in three of the four matches in the 1995 Rugby World Cup in South Africa. In season 1999/2000 he moved to France to play for Narbonne, before returning to the UK at the start of season 2001/2002 to join Sale Sharks. International record: 53 caps. 1993 - NZ(rep). 1994 - E(rep) F Arg1 Arg2. 1995 - C I F W E R WC(IC F NZ) WS. 1996 - I F W E A(rep) It. 1997 - E I F. 1998 - Fj A1 A2 SA. 1999 - R (rep) WC(U(rep) Sp). 2000 - It I USA A Sam. 2001 - F (rep) E (rep) It I. 2002 - E It I F W R SA Fj. 2003 - I F W E It.
