PLAYER WRITE-UP
The powerful No 8 grabbed the chance presented by the move of AJ Venter to the Lions in 1999 to cement a starting place in the Free Stare line-up. He missed only four matches that year and was in line to captain the side in the 2000 Vodacom Cup until the unexpected call from the Stormers came - he had been hoping of Super 12 chance with the Cats. He is a player who brings real presence to the back of the scrum. His nickname comes from his father who was also known as Tokkie. Elder brothers Saf and Chris also played first class rugby in the early 80s for Free State and Transvaal. The move to the Cape has been an eye-opener and on his first day he got lost on the way from the airport to the hotel.
