PLAYER WRITE-UP
Highly rated young loosehead lured to the Cape from that fine front row fnishing school of Port Elizabeth. He made his Super 12 debut with the Sharks in 1999 but faced stiff competition for a starting berth with the Stormers as Toks van der Linde and the versatile Robbie Kempson were also in the mix. Morne understudied Frans Erasmus and Willie Meyer at E.P after being a late developer at the sport having favoured swimming at primary school and cricket at high school. After breaking into the U.P.E under-21 team he quickly made up for lost time developing into a highly mobile loosehead and was E.P's leading try-scorer in last season's Currie Cup with seven tries. Used to be the lead guitarist in a professional rock and pop band called "Some Other Band". A motorcycling enthusiast, Morne used to take his 900cc Suzuki for 280kph spins around the track in P.E. Nickname "the Fridge" stuck after EP scrumhalf Chad Alcok was slammed by his coach for keeping hold of the ball when "you had a man as a big as a refigerator outside you!" Playing Position: Prop Povince: EP 1995-1999 (67 matches); WP 2000-2004 (28 matches) Overseas Tours: Gauteng S12 1997 (1 match); Sharks S12 1999 (1 match); Stormers S12 2000-2003 (11 matches) Other Honours: WP Bankfin Currie Cup Sqd (9 Caps as at mid July 2002) WP Vodacom Shield 2003.
