PLAYER WRITE-UP
Marius joined the Lions in 1999 after it seemed his career was dwindling at Western Province. But he turned out to be a revelation at Ellis Park where he cemented his place in the Lions front row as they marched to Currie Cup glory. This remarkable turnaround for Marius has caught many knowledgeable people in the game by surprise. His sound technical ability in the scrums is backed up by his astounding mobility and ball sense, making him a complete front ranker. Marius needs to get as much sleep as possible otherwise he becomes very grumpy. He aspires to owning his own plane one day. He loves fishing. He represented the Highlanders (New Zealand) in the Super 12 competition in 2002. The first South African to play for a New Zealand franchise in Super 12, Marius followed his former Cats coach Laurie Mains to Dunedin to play for Otago in the NPC. He has taken All Blacks prop Kees Meeuws' place with the Highlanders. Mostert is widely experienced having previously played for the Western Province, Boland, the Golden Lions and the Cats.
