Ashwin Scott ran in four tries to help the Pumas end the round robin phase of the Absa Currie Cup First Division with an emphatic 67-17 (29-7) victory over the bottom-placed Valke at the Barnard Stadium in Kempton Park on Friday.
The right winger scored all his tries during a scintillating 16-minute burst after the hour with the visitors outscoring the hosts by 10 tries to three.
Victory for the men from Mpumalanga ensured they claimed maximum points to end the regular season with a 100 per cent record after winning all 14 games to end on 66 points, while the Valke finished 2013 rooted to the foot of the table after just two triumphs.
The Pumas raced into a 17-0 lead after just 12 minutes of the game thanks to tries by Rosco Speckman and JW Bell, the pair scoring a hat-trick and brace respectively, adding to Carl Bezuidenhout's two conversions and a penalty - the flyhalf kicking 17 points in total.
Fullback Bell crossed the whitewash for the second time in the 28th minute, before left winger Speckman joined him on a double when he went in three minutes prior to the break.
But just before the interval sounded, there was finally some respite for the Valke when captain JP Mostert got them on the board with a first try.
The lead was already 22 points at the interval and four minutes after the restart, Speckman completed his hat-trick with flanker Doppies le Roux adding another try in the 49th minute.
From there on it was the Scott show with the right winger scoring tries in the 60th, 63rd, 66th and 75th minutes.
The hosts, who had Anrich Richter red carded in that period after a second yellow offence, did managed to score late tries through Mostert and Birtie Powell on their way to a 11th loss of the season.

Pumas - Tries: JW Bell (2), Rosco Speckman (3), Doppies le Roux, Ashwin Scott (4). Conversions: Carl Bezuidenhout (7). Penalty: Bezuidenhout.
