GWK Griquas lock Rory Arnold was cleared on Monday to resume his Absa Currie Cup duties, while DHL Western Province flank Deon Fourie was cited for making contact with Sharks looseforward Keegan Daniel’s face in the eye area during their clash in Cape Town on Saturday.
Arnold was handed a seven match suspension last Wednesday for allegedly biting Toyota Free State Cheetahs replacement hooker Ethienne Reynecke.
The Judicial Officer made the decision “on the balance of probabilities and relying particularly on the victim’s immediate and spontaneous reactions and the doctor’s evidence.”
However, Arnold lodged an appeal against the decision, which was heard in Cape Town on Monday.
The appeal was successful and the player was cleared to return to the field with immediate effect.
In the other case Deon Fourie was cited on Monday for contravening Law 10.4m after making contact with Daniel’s face close to the eye area in the 12th minute in their Absa Currie Cup clash this past weekend.
The incident occurred after Daniel pulled Fourie to the ground. No action was taken by the referee.
Fourie will appear before a disciplinary committee in Cape Town on Tuesday, 10 September 2013, at 10h00.
Advocate Donny Jacobs has been appointed as the Judicial Officer.
