Unbeaten Western Province tops log
September 13, 2012
Western Province and KwaZulu-Natal will enjoy home ground advantage on Saturday when they host the two semi-final matches of the 2012 SARU Women’s Interprovincial Championship.

The WP women finished unbeaten and top of the Group One standings and will therefore host the Cup final on Saturday, 22 September should they manage to advance to the final.

Province, the 2010 champion, will play against Free State at 14h45 at the Theo Marais Stadium in Milnerton, where they are considered to be the clear favourites.

In the other semi-final clash, home team KwaZulu-Natal will be in action against the strong Blue Bulls combination. This encounter at the Mr Price KINGS PARK in Durban kicks off at 14h00.

Two seasons ago WP Women managed to break the Eastern Province hold on the championship, only for the powerful EP outfit to reclaim their provincial crown in 2011.

This season however, the EP team failed to secure a place amongst the four semi-finalists and the women from the Eastern Cape will therefore, and for the first time since the competition started in 2006, not contest a playoff for the final.

SA Junior girls continue with preparations

Meanwhile, a group of fourteen SA Junior High Performance girls assembled in Cape Town on Thursday to continue with their preparations for the upcoming Australian Youth Olympics in Sydney.

The SA Juniors will be in action in several training matches against the Western Province Under-16 Sevens team on Saturday at City Park in Crawford.

The get together and training matches are part of their monthly training camp to prepare the girls for their first taste of international Sevens rugby in January next year.

Initially, a group of 17 girls were called up for the training in the Mother City. However, three of the youngsters withdrew earlier in the week because of exams.
