Women’s teams pursue playoff spots
August 16, 2012
The SARU Women’s Inter-Provincial Competition is nearing its climax and this weekend most of the teams will be in action in the penultimate round of pool matches.

In Group 1 Defending champions Eastern Province travel to the Pretoria to face the Blue Bulls with the knowledge that not even a win might be good enough to secure them a place in this year’s playoffs. The EP women have six league points from three matches and a bonus point win could increase their tally to 11 points.

Last year’s finalists the Blue Bulls currently sit on four points from their two matches and they can secure a spot in the play-offs by winning their match over the weekend and their remaining fixture.

Western Province are the team to beat this year and so far this season they have already defeated both the Blue Bulls and EP. The Province women now face SWD and by the look of things they should have no difficulty in picking up maximum points once again. If so, then a win will take their total to 13 league points with a game in hand.

Second-placed Border have nine points from three matches and are enjoying a bye this weekend ahead of their important top-table clash with WP.

In Group 2 Free State host KwaZulu-Natal in a top-table clash. KZN have accumulated 15 points after three matches while the Free Staters have nine points from two matches. Boland will be hosting the Golden Lions and both teams will be looking to register their first victory of the season.

In Section B of this group the two leading teams, Leopards and Pumas, will face each other. The Leopards are trailing Pumas by a single point and have a game in hand.

In Van der Bijl Park the Falcons are up against the fast improving Limpopo. A win for Limpopo will place them in a good spot to challenge the leaders for a place in the final.
