Wesley Dunlop kicked an 80th-minute penalty to give the Eastern Province Kings a 20-all draw against the Standard Bank Pampas team from Argentina, at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Saturday.

The Kings enjoyed a 14-9 lead at halftime thanks to a try by fullback Siviwe Sonwabile Soyizwapi, and three penalties by Dunlop.

Benjamin Madero opened the scoring in the first minute with a penalty, but the Kings struck back almost immediately with a penalty by Dunlop to level the scores.

Soyizwapi then linked well with the backline to go over for his try in the 14th minute, but Dunlop was unable to convert, giving the home side an 8-3 lead.

The Pampas fly-half then added two more penalties to give the visitors the lead mid-way through the first half.

But Dunlop then knocked two more penalties over in the 23rd and 32nd minute to take the hosts into the changeroom 14-9 up.

The game remained tight as the first 20 minutes of the second half resembled two heavyweight boxers looking for a weakness.

The Kings were then awarded a penalty on the half-way line in the 59th minute, and Van Breda stepped up and slotted the kick, extending the lead to eight points.

Madero then brought the visitors back into the match with two penalties of his own in the 66th and 70th minute.

When Manuel Montero went over the line with six minutes to go, the Pampas moved into a three-point lead, as Madero missed the conversion.

But Dunlop had the last word by slotting the 80th-minute penalty, giving the score-line a fair reflection of the balance of play, as both teams sought to dominate, unsuccessfully.
