More than just a regular Finals Day
March 30, 2012

This season's Varsity Cup Finals Day might be just over a week away, but preparations are already well under way to ensure that Easter on Monday in 2012 will not be forgotten in a hurry.

The action at the Tuks Rugby Stadium on Monday, April 9 will kick off at 2:30pm with the second-ever promotion/relegation match between the seventh-placed Cup team (FNB UCT) and the loser of FNB CUT v FNB Wits (who will oppose each other in the 2012 Varsity Shield Final on Monday, April 2).

The Steinhoff Koshuisrugby Championships Final - between Steinhoff Dagbreek (Maties) and Steinhoff Vishuis (Shimlas) - will then kick off at 4:30pm, followed by the 2012 Varsity Cup Final between hosts, FNB UP-Tuks, and the three-time champions, FNB Maties, at 7pm.

As part of the entertainment on the day, top South African group Die Heuwels Fantasties will be performing live from the ground throughout the day, while tickets - for those attending in Pretoria next Monday - are FREE! Tickets can simply be collected from the Tuks Rugby Club from Monday, April 2, so make sure you get yours before they run out.

Varsity Cup Managing Director Duitser Bosman told "Our Varsity Rugby slogan is Rugby that Rocks and who better to rock the Finals Day than Die Heuwels Fantasties?

"Our intention is to make this the most memorable Varsity Cup Final ever and we think we have our bases covered with excellent entertainment in the form of Die Heuwels Fantasties and, of course, three huge rugby matches on offer too.

"Don't delay, get your tickets from the Tuks Rugby offices from Monday, April 2 - you wouldn't want to miss out on Easter Monday!"

Die Heuwels Fantasties will kick off at the Tuks Fan Park - inside the Tuks Rugby Stadium - during the first half of the promotion/relegation match, before moving onto the field itself for a 20-minute stint ahead of the Koshuisrugby Final.

They will take to the field one more time ahead of the final - which kicks off at 7pm - and they will lead the teams through the national anthem, Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika.

Each university taking place in the final will be able to set up their own Fan Parks - one at the very popular Neelsie Student Centre in Stellenbosch for those Maties fans unable to make the trip up to Pretoria and one for the home fans right inside their very own stadium.

Each Fan Park will have a big screen with a DSTV connection, along with Black Label beer gardens, Spur burgers for sale and full sound systems to allow the various spirit squads and SuperSport personalities present to whip the crowds into a frenzy.

Both Fan Parks will link up with SuperSport on the day, giving those fans in Pretoria and Stellenbosch the opportunity to talk to each other in a unique link up - allowing both sets of supporters and universities to air their views ahead of and during the final.
