Junior Boks a hit at JWC legacy event
June 20, 2013
Several members of the Junior Springbok rugby squad took part in an IRB Junior World Championship legacy programme in Vannes, France, on Thursday.

More than a thousand school kids from the local surrounding areas attended the rugby development programme arranged by the JWC organisers, the local city authorities and the Vannes Rugby Club.

Replacement lock Jannie Stander was one of the six players who took part in a demonstration touch rugby match and gave a helping hand during the coaching clinic.

The other players who attended the legacy event were Hanco Venter, Devon Martinus, Dries Swanepoel, Percy Williams and Sylvian Mahuza.

Team Manager Jonathan Mokuena, who showed during the touch rugby demonstration that he has lost none of his Sevens skills, said it was an honour for the team to be involved in a project that is aimed to develop the game of rugby in the local French seaside port of Vannes.

“The guys are enjoying their stay in France and we have been very warmly received wherever we went. The town and its people are doing a good job to make us all feel welcome. The matches have been well supported and the atmosphere have been great.

“The kids are so eager to learn and enthusiastic and the players had a tremendous time today,” said Mokuena.

The Junior Boks resumed their training on Thursday afternoon in preparation for their last JWC match against New Zealand on Sunday.

The two teams will meet in the playoff for third place at 15:15 in the local stadium in Vannes. This match will be followed by the Final at 18:45 between Wales and England.
