Junior Boks say thanks to club
May 09, 2013
The SA Under-20 team handed over training equipment to the SK Walmers rugby in Cape Town on Thursday after completing their preparations for their friendly international against Namibia.

The legacy handover took place at the Green Point Track, the historic home club of SK Walmers which is situated next to the Cape Town Stadium and close to the V & A Waterfront tourist attraction.

SA U20 coach Dawie Theron, captain Ruan Steenkamp, and players Percy Williams, Sti Sithole and Robert du Preez attended the handover after the team’s morning training session.

The Junior Springboks have training since Monday at the Track. Theron praised the facilities of the club, which was renovated recently by the City of Cape Town. The club also recently hosted several Cell C Community Cup matches.

“I have nothing but praise for the club. They have been very helpful during our training sessions here and it was a real pleasure to be involved with them. The facilities are top-class and the players all said they enjoyed all the sessions at the club.”

Mervyn Green, the SARU GM for Rugby Development, said the training equipment will be put to good use.

“SK Walmers is a community club in every sense of the word and are deserving of this handover initiative. SARU is serious about delevoping rugby at grassroots level and this small gesture will go a long way in ensuring that we assist a community that has rugby very close to its heart.”

Moeneeb Levy, the SK Walmers Vice-President, praised SARU for the handover and said the club was extremely proud to have hosted the Junior Springboks for a couple of days.
