Coca-Cola Youth Weeks kick off in Kimberley
June 29, 2009
The 2009 edition of the annual Under-13 Coca-Cola Craven Week kicked off on Monday at the GWK Stadium in Kimberley.

Eighteen teams will participate in this Week with each of the fourteen SARU provinces represented by one team with the exception of the Blue Bulls and Border unions, who will each send two sides to the competition. An Under-13 team from Namibia and Zimbabwe will also participate at the Kimberley event.

“The Youth Weeks are a time to get together and strengthen at this crucial age group. This is where the foundation of South African rugby lies,” said SARU Vice-President Rautie Rautenbach at the official opening of the Coca-Cola Craven Week.

“For educators, coaches, players; this is the event that everybody has been looking forward to for months. Months of preparations on and off the field will bear fruit, as the boys give their all, in the good spirit of rugby. Parents and rugby followers generally have become accustomed to the excellence displayed by our young players during the week.

“The Coca-Cola Youth Weeks have a special place in the hearts of all South Africans who care about the future of rugby. These tournaments give rugby experts the ideal opportunity to cast an eye over our enormous amount of emerging talent.”
