Powerful SA Sevens Academy to compete in Harare
March 02, 2012

Four current Springbok Sevens players will play for the SA Academy team at the SPAR International Tournament over the weekend in Harare.

The four are Pieter Engelbrecht, William Small-Smith, MJ Mentz and Renfred Dazel. Engelbrecht has now fully recovered from his broken leg. Small-Smith returned to the senior squad after spending some time with the SA U20’s in their preparation for the forthcoming Junior World Championship in June.

Marius Schoeman is the Team Manager and the coach is Vuyo Zangqa, the assistant Springbok Sevens coach.

“This tournament forms part of our strategic plan to develop more youngsters for the Sevens training squad.

“All the newly contracted Academy players will get an opportunity to play and we have also included some Springbok players who recently returned from injury or did not play in the previous two HSBC Sevens World Series tournaments in Wellington and Las Vegas.
