Your Question: Should the schools not have more rugby days where lots of schools play at one venue on one day to give more exposure to schools rugby? – Stefan in Bellville

Mervin answers: Many thanks for your question Stefan. At SARU we are working hard on securing more playing opportunities for our SA Schools team. We have just completed a very successful Under-18 International Series against England, Wales and France and I am very pleased that we could manage a record of 3-0 against these more experienced teams.

Your Question: When is Saru coming to our area to have clinics? We have a lot of players here that play for Pumas but never see Springboks here - Chumani, Standerton.

Mervin answers: Hi Chumani. Each year we have our different Coca-Cola Craven Week tournaments at various venues across the country. A short while ago we held the final trials for the SA Schools team at Kempton Park, so we are making every effort to spread the activities of especially SA Schools and junior international rugby around the country. Last week, for instance, the SA Schools finished their international series against England on a high note in Bellville after similar fixtures in Wellington and George.

- Jerome in Cape Town

Your Question: Faried in Wellington - To what do you attribute the success of the Junior World Championship and the SA Schools?

Mervin answers: Hi Faried, the success in the JWC can be attributed to very hard work behind the scenes by SARU and the IRB, as well as an excellent performance on the field of play by our Junior Springboks, and of course very good planning by the coaching staff. The SA Schools were picked after 50 or so players were identified during the Coca-Cola Youth Weeks where they attended trials in Kempton Park – meaning that SARU were able to choose the very best players for the SA Schools.
