Your Question: Was Timo Swiel injured, or not chosen? - Hendrik

Dawie answers: Hendrik, Timothy was one of the contenders we looked at, but came back from a shoulder injury and did not have any game time before the tournament. We decided to go with players that was in form at the time.

Your Question: Have you learnt anything from this campaign, and do you think you will change the build-up to next years campaign? We seemed a bit rusty at first (and indecisive in team selections, even at this late stage. Some of the players starting now played no part in the build-up to the JWC) by not having a proper competitive build-up leading into the campaign, as was had by the 6 Nations teams. - Hendrik

Dawie answers: We had a detailed plan on how to approach the JWC and I am pleased with the end result. I certainly could not ask for a better performance from the team, who improved with every match. Our hand was forced in certain team selections due to injury and the way we wanted to play with certain combinations. For the final as example, we had four players unavailable due to injury.

We have learned from mistakes made and will improve on that. The fact that the tournament will be in France next year will obviously impact on the way we plan for that.

Your Question: Dawie, JWC has been a stepping stone for more than one current Springbok. I am curious to know if there are one or two of the lads who were not in the conversation as playing Springbok rugby in the near future at the begining of the JWC but who you now think should be given some attention and at what moment did the player or players turn you into a believer? - AJ White

Dawie answers: Pressure situations tend to bring the best players to the fore and our coaching staff were delighted with the way some players responded to that. There will definitely be players from this group that will become Springboks and even great Springboks. I think it will be unfair to single any player out, but the future certainly looks bright with the talent in this squad.

Your Question: Hi Mr Theron I just want to know what do you say to the junior boks when its half time?, because when they come up again they are like a fire just spreading into the opponents half and scores. - Sylvia

Dawie answers: It is important to remain positive and keep on reminding the players about the execution of the game plan. Against England for example, we stressed the fact that we created the four opportunities to score the bonus point try, but did not convert one of them. We asked them to create four more and then finish them. That is what they did. Against New Zealand we wanted to exploit our superior driving and mauling and play to the conditions and again the players responded magnificently.
