Your Question: Hi Paul, Im sad the last sevens did not go our way. Just wanted to say your a great coach and we have a great team. Im sure you will get though it. Best of luck! Chris

Paul answers: Many thanks Chris, I really appreciate your support. Yes, it was a tough and demanding season and you are well aware of the injury-disruptions we had to key players. Sevens are serious business and the other teams treat it as such. Many have now contract and permanent squad members. We must constantly innovate and I am sure we will bounce back next season.

Your Question: What happen to Fabian (fabulous) Jurries, he was a try scoring machine & can also bring some experince to the team. - Bob Hartslief

Paul answers: Fabba was a great player but unfortunately time catch up with everyone, even great ones! He has moved on from playing and maybe we can use his huge experience in another way to assist us. Remember we also have the SA Academy where we develop young players, but ultimately it is up to Fabba what he wants to do going forward.

Your Question: Hi Paul. When we receive a penalty, we always seem do a set move – giving the defence time to rearrange. We are the only team who does this. Why is this and why don’t they play quickly? Also: During our final group match against Australia in London you asked the cameraman to remove the audio. Why don’t you rather speak Afrikaans, or isn’t all your players able to properly understand Afr? - Ruan

Paul answers: It is something we will have a look at, and maybe the captain or the player with the ball wants to make sure he has his players in place and not in front of the ball. Our squad is a diverse group of players and it’s better to speak in a language which everyone understanding then to maybe explain some terms over – remember the break is only one minute long!

Your Question: Hi Paul, I know it was a difficult season but you’ve been doing a good job with not much resources before you managed to contract the players you want. With that in mind, will you make any significant changes for next season? Achmat Davids.

Paul answers: Thanks for the encouragement Achmat. Fortunately we managed to commit most of the players to contracts so that we can work on a fulltime basis with them. We also have some exciting youngsters in our SA Sevens Academy and have used some of them already the past season – like Cheslin Kolbe, to name as an example. Then there are players who are busy with SA Under -20 commitments such as William Small-Smith and Tshotsho Mbovane, who next season should be available for more involvement in our senior squad. Most of the other promising young players get snapped up by the provincial unions, who in turn must look after their future own development. I am confident we have a good, promising bunch of guys in our system that will develop into a good team with the necessary exposure and experience they gain from playing with more senior players in the World Series.
