Your Question: Where can I get tickets for the Hong Kong sevens 24th and 25th March? – Gerrit Maritz

Paul answers: Hi Gerrit – hope you get there, it’s a great tournament. A good start would probably be Good luck!

Your Question: Hi Paul Why are you continuing to select small players who are easily dominated by NZ and Fiji - the most consistent Sevens teams? It's great that we can beat most teams on our day, but NZ and especially Fiji just bulldoze us. Surely a way to counteract that would be to have bigger players selected for those games? Thanks, Wes.

Paul answers: Wes, it’s not as straight forward as it seems. We aim to play a certain style and size is not the most important factor in that. Having said that, sometimes it seems that the bigger players are dominant in the more direct approach. Remember, when we won the Series a few years ago, we also didn’t have the biggest players. I have faith in our boys (we might have to pull in a few new ones with all the injuries) and we’ll keep on working hard to come out at the top.

Your Question: Hello Paul, We always seem to prepare so well for the different tournaments, but don't win many of them. What is the reason for this? What is needed for us to win more in your opinion? – Greg

Paul answers: Perhaps a bit of luck Greg? I’m only kidding, but it’s been a frustrating season in terms of how we convert our preparations to how we play. The margin for error is so small and most of the teams are very even – the top four teams are separated by less than 20 points on the standings. If I knew the magic ingredient, we’ll win everything, but that’s something every coach says. Like I told Wes, we’re going to keep on putting in the hard yards, I believe our luck can turn this season.

Your Question: Hi Paul, thanks for taking the time. I see you’ve picked some Pukke stars – please explain your thinking behind this? Thanks, Deon Badenhorst from Potch.

Paul answers: Hi Deon – are they mates of yours? We’ve drafted in Siya Mdaka and Joe Seerane with all the injuries we’ve suffered (they were in CT after playing UCT on Monday and I asked them to stay behind with us) and I must say, these okes (as well as a few others) have really put their hands up in the Varsity Cup. I’d like to have a look at them and see how they fit in with what we’re trying to achieve. We also had Kevin Luiters from Shimlas train with us (before he got injured playing for his Varsity Cup side on Monday), and I also like the look of Dillyn Leyds from UCT.

Your Question: Who do you rate the best ever Springbok Sevens player? – Ben-Philip

Paul answers: That is a tough one – we’ve really had some great players and to compare them, would be an injustice to the individuals. Last season Cecil Afrika walked away with all the awards, but he’s been very well supported by his team mates. It’s still a team sport.
