DHL Western Province Head Coach Allister Coetzee was forced into three changes to his team for Saturday’s Currie Cup semi-final clash against the MTB Golden Lions in Johannesburg.
Jean de Villiers, Andries Bekker and Tiaan Liebenberg were all ruled out with injury with only De Villiers in the run to play in the final, should the visitors shock the Coca-Cola Park faithful.
De Villiers is struggling with a hamstring injury, while Bekker (toe) and Liebenberg (back) has been ruled out of the Springbok touring squad next month as well. Lock De Kock Steenkamp, hooker Siyabonga Ntubeni and inside centre Marcel Brache come in for the injured Bok trio.
Coetzee also opted for Gio Aplon at fullback ahead of Joe Pietersen, who drops to the bench.
The Western Province team is: 15 Gio Aplon, 14 Gerhard van den Heever, 13 Juan de Jongh, 12 Marcel Brache, 11 Bryan Habana, 10 Demetri Catrakilis, 9 Nic Groom, 8 Duane Vermeulen, 7 Don Armand, 6 Deon Fourie (captain), 5 De Kock Steenkamp, 4 Eben Etzebeth, 3 Frans Malherbe, 2 Siyabonga Ntubeni, 1 Steven Kitshoff.
