GWK Griquas are still unbeaten in this year's Vodacom Cup competition, beating the Assupol Limpopo Blue Bulls 68-13 in their Vodacom Cup encounter at GWK Park in Kimberley on Friday afternoon.

The Polokwane-based side looked good on the attack early on, but their structures on the defence were left wanting early on and Griquas scored via winger Hilford Clarke, who scored a hat-trick of tries in the first 40 minutes as the visitors lacked grunt in their tackling.

After missing an earlier attempt, Limpopo flyhalf Andy Huysamen kicked a successful penalty in the 16th minute to put his side on the board.

It was their inability on defence that was evident and Griquas scored their third try of the afternoon via centre Thabang Molefe. Dustin Jinka converted.

Huysamen kicked another penalty to reduce the deficit, but Griquas answered by scoring the bonus point try in the 30th minute via scrumhalf Ntando Kebe.

From there the hosts scored another converted try, with winger Clarke getting his hat-trick of tries under the posts to make the halftime score 33-6 in favour of the hosts.

Griquas opened up the game in the second half and it paid off with replacement flyhalf Gouws Prinsloo and hooker Simon Westraadt scoring in succession with Jinka converting on both accounts.

Credit must go to Limpopo, who never gave up in a game where they were clearly outclassed. After the hammering they got last season, losing almost every game with more than 100 points, they looked much better as an amateur side.

They finally had something to cheer about when scrumhalf Niyass Johnson, their best player on the day, picked up a ball from the back of the scrum and ran 60 metres for his try under the uprights. Huysamen converted to give his side well deserved points.

Griquas, however, answered in kind when replacement lock Jaco Nepgen scored after a good break by his captain and eight man Burger Schoeman.

Jinka converted and the visitors' happiness was short lived. The last couple of minutes Griquas scored again via replacement Carel Greeff and Jinka again got work for his kicking boot. Nepgen scored his second try of the afternoon shortly thereafter.

GWK Griquas 68 (33): Tries: Hilford Clarke 3, Thabang Molefe, Ntando Kebe, Gouws Prinsloo, Simon Westraadt, Jaco Nepgen (2), Carel Greeff. Conversions: Dustin Jinka (7), Gouws Prinsloo.

Assupol Limpopo Blue Bulls 13 (6): Try: Niyass Johnson. Conversion: Andy Huysamen. Penalties: Andy Huysamen (2).
