Francois Brummer scored 29 points as GWK Griquas romped to an emphatic 124-5 win against the hapless Limpopo Blue Bulls in a Vodacom Cup match at the Chris Wiid Stadium in Groblersdal on Saturday.

GWK Griquas took control of the match in the first half as they scored six tries and led 38-5 at halftime.

Limpopo had no answer to the structured play of the visitors as Griquas' excellent control and their ability to recycle the ball through several phases to stretch the defense, had the hosts in complete disarray.

Griquas scored twenty tries, with both left wing Rocco Jansen and flanker Marnus Schoeman managing five five-pointers. Brummer converted twelve tries, but also scored one.

It was a remarkable performance by the left winger, who was representing Griquas in his 50th match.

Jansen, a balanced runner with the ability to step both ways and to accelerate to beat defenders, put in several electrifying runs on his way to his five tries.

Schoeman excelled in the line-outs, was industrious in the loose play together with Leon Karemaker, but was also difficult to stop with the ball in hand.

Brummer controlled play well and gave the ball plenty of air, as his three-quarters excelled against the struggling defenders.

From the Free State Cheetahs’ point of view, the performance by Brummer was a heartening one, as the franchise have lost their Springbok flyhalf Johan Goosen due to an injury.

Brummer, who previously represented the Bulls, would have impressed the franchise selectors with a polished performance.
