In the Hot Seat - Schalk Brits in Edinburgh
November 15, 2012
Every week we give readers of BOKzine the opportunity to ask questions of South African rugby personalities. Simply sign up for our weekly fan newsletter, BOKzine, by clicking here!

Your Question: Hi Schalk Big fan. Just a quick question: where do you see us struggling against the English in the final test, knowing most of the team I imagine? Wes

Schalk answers: Thanks for the support Wes. It’s difficult to look that far ahead at this stage. We have a very important Test to prepare for against Scotland on Saturday and that is our main focus at this stage. Having said that, I know the English game and let me assure you they will be coming for us, especially at the set piece. It’s going to be a massive Test and hopefully I’ll get a run at Twickenham.

Your Question: When you were called up for the Bokke team to play Ireland, Scotland & England was it an easy decision to accept the invite and did you not think it would be weird playing against your UK team mates?? Brian Super

Schalk answers: Brian, I can’t begin to explain to you what a massive honour and surprise it was to get that call from Heyneke. I didn’t think twice when he asked me to join them – there is no greater honour than to represent your country on the rugby field and it’s something I’ve missed a lot the last couple of years. It’s really a dream come true!

Your Question: Hi Schalk jou lekker ding!! Wanneer kom jy terug WP toe? We miss you. Marietjie Opperman

Schalk answers: Hi Marietjie! Die Kaap sal altyd n spesialle plek in my hart hé. Ek het sulke ongelooflike memories van my tyd in die Kaap, maar in hierdie stadium gaan dit baie goed by Saracens en die mense kyk so goed na ons.Ons kyk maar wat hou die toekoms in!

Your Question: Hi Schalk,I trust rugby abroad is paced and intensity is somewhat different to what we know here in SA. However your return to the BOK squad, is that difference really there. NB! I am and was always a Province surporter and liked ur style of play ever since. Edward

Schalk answers: That is true Edward – because of the weather conditions the fields are heavier, handling is sometimes more difficult and the pace of the game is different, but the basics are the same and if you don’t have that in place, it doesn’t matter what conditions you play in.

Your Question: Skalla (no 2) congrats on your selection, hope u get a fair bit of gametime u legend paul

Schalk answers: Thanks Paul – and so do I, but in the end, I’ll be happy to fulfil any role as long as we can get that win on Saturday.
