Former test referee pass away
September 30, 2012
Former test match referee Gert Bezuidenhout passed away late last week. He was 78.

The former schoolmaster handled three test matches in the 1970 series between South Africa and New Zealand in 1970. He was also in charge of three Absa Currie Cup finals (1971, 1976, 1978) and handled the first ever international match between the South African Schools team and foreign opposition.

In his later life Bezuidenhout served as secretary and as chairman of the Transvaal Refereeing Society. He was well respected for his vast knowledge of the rugby laws.
